Project Based Learning (PBL)

PBL is an instructional approach built upon authentic learning activities that engage students’ interest and motivation. These activities are designed to answer a question or solve a problem and generally reflect the types of learning and work people do in the everyday world outside the classroom.
Role of the teacher:
·      As facilitator
·      Working with students to frame worthwhile questions
·      Coaching both knowledge development and social students skills
·      Carefully assessing what students have learned from the experience


Role of the students:
·      Interdisciplinary
·      Student-centered
·      Students must organize their own work

Advantages:
·      Broader knowledge base
·      Improved communication and interpersonal/social skills
·      Enhanced leadership skills
·      Increased creativity
·      A greater depth of understanding concepts

Disadvantages:
·      Manage complexity and time, keep deadlines
·      Students have trouble relating data, concept and theory
            -   Students have difficulty define a research proje
